DESCRIPTION: Handgilded kina shell fragments set on the end of drop wire earrings Shell handsculpted to resemble natural gemstones. Kina or sea urchins are found all around the New Zealand coast in shallow water and down to 15m. Looking a like a hedgehog rolled up in a ball, the spines of kina seem to be impenetrable defences. Kina have a nearly spherical shell which protects internal organs. The shell carries its movable spines and tube feet. Kinaare symbols of benevolence, kind-heartedness and inner beauty. Collected from one of the shores of the Bay of Islands. Handsculpted and gilded with 23k gold leaf and natural mica powder, resin, local sand and sculptor’s clay to resemble a natural gemstone.

SHELL SIZE: Irregular shape approx. 25mm x 10mm to fit setting. There will be slight size and shape variations due to its natural elements.
